Marine Macroalga-associated Bacillus amyloliquefaciens as Prospective Probiotic
نویسندگان
چکیده
Heterotrophic Bacillus amyloliquefaciens (MTCC 12716) isolated from the red alga Hypnea valentiae exhibited promising antibacterial activity (minimum inhibitory concentration of ≤1.0 µg/mL) against clinically relevant pathogens. The bacterium displayed bile salt and acid tolerance up to 4 h in a simulated gastric fluid, along with prospective antioxidant effect. This non-hemolytic was found be sensitive panel antibiotics did not amplify enterotoxin-specific genes. In order analyze possibilities scaling up, we have optimized growth B. by response surface methodology realize maximum production anti-infective agents fermentation medium observed an increment about 85% gastrointestinal As probiotic treatment is useful due its ability recreate natural intestinal microflora, this heterotrophic could contemplated offer probiotic. Further studies are needed assess utility for commercial application.

Toxicity of Synthetic Surfactants to the Marine Macroalga, Ulva lactuca
The toxicities of three synthetic surfactants to the marine macroalga, Ulva lactuca, have been examined by monitoring chlorophyll a fluorescence quenching. The anionic surfactant, sodium dodecyl sulphate (SDS), exerted no measurable toxicity over the concentration range 0–10 mg L, while presence of the non-ionic surfactant, Triton X-100 (TX), elicited a small reduction in photochemical efficien...
متن کاملBacteriocin as Weapons in the Marine Animal-Associated Bacteria Warfare: Inventory and Potential Applications as an Aquaculture Probiotic
As the association of marine animals with bacteria has become more commonly recognized, researchers have increasingly questioned whether these animals actually produce many of the bioactive compounds originally isolated from them. Bacteriocins, ribosomally synthesized antibiotic peptides, constitute one of the most potent weapons to fight against pathogen infections. Indeed, bacteriocinogenic b...
متن کاملThermal Acclimation of Respiration and Photosynthesis in the Marine Macroalga Gracilaria lemaneiformis (Gracilariales, Rhodophyta).
The responses of respiration and photosynthesis to temperature fluctuations in marine macroalgae have the potential to significantly affect coastal carbon fluxes and sequestration. In this study, the marine red macroalga Gracilaria lemaneiformis was cultured at three different temperatures (12, 19, and 26°C) and at high- and low-nitrogen (N) availability, to investigate the acclimation potentia...
متن کاملKiloniella laminariae gen. nov., sp. nov., an alphaproteobacterium from the marine macroalga Laminaria saccharina.
A novel alphaproteobacterium, strain LD81(T), was isolated from the marine macroalga Laminaria saccharina. The bacterium is mesophilic and shows a typical marine growth response. It is a chemoheterotrophic aerobe with the potential for denitrification. Growth optima are 25 degrees C, pH 5.5 and 3 % NaCl. Strain LD81(T) has a unique phylogenetic position, not fitting any of the known families of...
متن کاملBiosynthesis of Silver Nanoparticles Using Brown Marine Macroalga, Sargassum Muticum Aqueous Extract
Biological synthesis of nanoparticles is a relatively new emerging field of nanotechnology which has economic and eco-friendly benefits over chemical and physical processes of synthesis. In the present work, for the first time, the brown marine algae Sargassum muticum (S. muticum) aqueous extract was used as a reducing agent for the synthesis of nanostructure silver particles (Ag-NPs). Structur...
